Vol. 367 No. 5

Written Answers. - Proposed Dublin School Extension.

154.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding the development of the general purposes area in St. Vincent de Paul girl's school, Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9; the reasons for the delay in placing a contract; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will recall the reply given to his Parliamentary Question of 19 November 1985, regarding the development of the general purposes area in St. Vincent de Paul's girls' national school, Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9, indicating that the tender for the construction of this area was significantly in excess of the allowable cost limit, and that it was necessary to secure suitable cost reductions before further progress could be made.

Since that date, consultations with the school authorities have resulted in acceptable cost reductions being proposed in relation to the work to be grant aided by my Department and, accordingly, I have authorised the placing of a contract for this project during August next on the basis that work on the project may commence at any time after the last day of the month in question. My Department's primary buildings branch expects in the near future to be able to write to the school authorities in the usual way with instructions on the remaining procedures.
