Vol. 367 No. 6

Written Answers. - Arthurstown (Kildare) Dump.

45.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the grave concern among the people of the area, regarding the proposal to open a dump at Arthurstown, Kill, County Kildare. which will be used to dispose of up to 600 tonnes of baled waste per day; the measures, if any, he proposes to take to ensure that serious damage is not done to the environment in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that planning permission has been granted for the waste disposal facility in question, subject to detailed conditions designed to safeguard against any environmental impairment. Statutory responsibility for the supervision of any waste disposal operations at the site is vested in Kildare County Council and I have no power to intervene in relation to the matter.
