Vol. 368 No. 3

Written Answers. - Eastern Health Board Financing.

18.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the expected deficit in relation to money allocated to the Eastern Health Board and its expected spending requirements for the current year; how it is expected that the Health Board will make up the deficit; if it is likely that the deficit will lead to cutbacks in services in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy, as a member of the Eastern Health Board, must be as well informed as I am concerning the financial position of the board and its budgetary strategy for the current year. For the benefit of the House, however, I might mention that the Health Board, at a meeting on 21 May 1986 adopted a budget for 1986 and approved of proposals aimed at securing reductions in expenditure to the extent needed to avoid exceeding the approved allocation.
