Vol. 368 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mortgage Subsidy Scheme.

95.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make an order to allow mortgage subsidy applicants to let their houses if they become unemployed, and are made redundant; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The mortgage subsidy scheme is designed to assist persons in providing housing for their own occupation and accordingly occupation of the house as a normal place of residence is a condition for continuation of payment of the subsidy. I do not contemplate changing the condition of the scheme so as to allow payment of the subsidy for houses which have been let.
