Vol. 368 No. 5

Written Answers. - Harbours Bill.

108.

asked the Minister for Communications if he received an objection to section 17 of the Harbours Bill, 1986, from Limerick Chamber of Commerce; and if he will consider the points made in the chamber of commerce submission and change the terms of section 17 accordingly.

I have recently received a submission from Limerick Chamber of Commerce in regard to the provision in section 17 of the Harbours Bill, 1986, as it affects them. I will consider the points made but I must emphasise that the proposed Shannon Ports Authority will have responsibility for the administration and development of the entire Shannon Estuary, with the exception of the harbour within the jurisdiction of Foynes Harbour Trustees initially, and I believe that the provision in section 17 is necessary to reflect the changed circumstances.
