Vol. 368 No. 6

Written Answers. - Nenagh (Tipperary) Water Treatment Plant Proposal.

37.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction the provision of a sludge treatment plant for Nenagh regional water supply scheme as proposed by Tipperary (NR) County Council and supported by An Taisce and all angling, recreational and environmental groups in North Tipperary.

The provision of a waste sludge treatment plant for the Nenagh regional water supply scheme was not considered to be justified and it was not therefore included in the scheme when it was approved by my Department in December 1981. The approval was, however, given on the basis that the waters of the lake would be monitored when the scheme was in operation and should the monitoring show any evidence of significant adverse effects on water quality, remedial measures, including the question of suitable treatment would be immediately considered.
