asked the Minister for the Environment if local improvement schemes for roadworks apply in the electoral division of Glengort, West Limerick, having regard to the fact that this area has been included by the European Community in the disadvantaged areas scheme.

The local improvement scheme applies to farm road projects eligible for EC aid under the western package. Glengort is not within the area covered by the western package. It is, however, one of a number of additional areas recently included in the disadvantaged areas of the west.
The Minister for Agriculture has submitted proposals to the EC Commission for the extension of the western package to these additional areas. A reply from the Commission is awaited.
