Staff members employed at Dún Laoghaire harbour yard are currently responsible for both the maintenance of Dún Laoghaire harbour and for the maintenance of Government buildings in the Dún Laoghaire and south-east Dublin area. The engineering grades also have additional responsibilities for other marine works, apart from Dún Laoghaire harbour.

Three employees will be retiring shortly, prior to the proposed transfer of responsibility for the management of the harbour to the Department of the Marine, on 1 January 1989. Under this transfer of function to the Department of the Marine it is not, at this time, proposed to relocate any of the staff physically. While the Department of the Marine will assume responsibility for the majority of the staff, a small number, proportionate to the needs of Government building maintenance in the area, will be retained under the control of the Office of Public Works.
