asked the Minister for Defence the total cost to the Exchequer incurred by the Irish Navy patrol on Irish waters for the control of salmon fishing for the years 1983, 1984 and 1985.

The total direct costs arising from Naval Service assistance to the Department of Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry, utilising two coastal minesweepers in inshore salmon fishery protection measures during the period in question was £382,000.
