Vol. 368 No. 8

Written Answers. - Limerick Teacher Appointment.

266.

asked the Minister for Education his views on the disquiet locally at the appointment of a principal teacher at the Model School, Limerick; the number of applicants; the number interviewed; the qualification of the successful applicant; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The procedure followed for the appointment of a principal teacher of the new coeducational Model School in Limerick was fully in accordance with my Department's regulations. Under these regulations the competition was confined to the principals of the former boys' and girls' schools, both of whom were fully qualified for the position. The selection of the principal teacher of the boy's school by the selection board was ratified by the board of management and sanction for his appointment has been conveyed to the board. I am not aware of any special reason for local disquiet in the matter.
