Vol. 368 No. 8

Written Answers. - Post-Graduate Training in Research.

269.

asked the Minister for Education if he has been alerted to the effect the reduction of the number of grants under his Department's maintenance allowance for post-graduate training and research in pure science and engineering schemes is having on post-graduate students, in that without the experience of research they are less likely to obtain employment in industry; and if he will reconsider his decision on this matter and allocate the same number of grants as in 1984 and 1985.

The position regarding the scheme of maintenance allowances for post-graduate training in research in pure science and engineering has been reviewed and the number of allowances to be offered will not be reduced but will be maintained at the 1985-86 academic year level of 200.
