asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give details of efforts being made to promote Gort as an industrial location; the number of visits paid by industrialists to Gort in the past 12 months; the outcome of those visits; and the proposals, if any, which the IDA have for creation of new manufacturing jobs in the Gort area.

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 34 and 35 together. The Industrial Development Authority is actively promoting both Gort and Athenry as suitable locations for industrial development. During the past 12 months three site visits have been made to Gort. No firm proposals have emerged for the town from these visits todate but the IDA is pursuing negotiations with one of the parties involved.

Two overseas industrialists have visited Athenry over the past 12 months. The IDA is following up these inquiries with a view to securing suitable projects for the town.

The IDA has 13.4 acres of land available in Athenry and 22.5 acres in Gort which will assist it in its continuing efforts to secure industrial projects in both towns.
