Vol. 368 No. 10

Written Answers. - Tax Deductions.

83.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has reached any conclusion regarding the query which Deputy O'Rourke addressed to him by correspondence in April last about the excessive tax deduction from a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who is a widow with six dependent children.

The Deputy will understand that I have no function in this matter as the assessment and collection of taxes are matters for the Revenue Commissioners. I have been informed by the commissioners that the tax charged in the case is correct but that they are prepared to discuss the problem of payment with the person concerned. I have written to the Deputy enclosing the commissioners' observations.
