The introduction of a mandatory system of registration for tourist accommodation has been considered on a number of occassions in the past but for various reasons has not been proceeded with. At my instigation, Bord Fáilte are currently undertaking a detailed study of the accommodation sector, including both registered and non-registered operators. On receipt of this study, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, I will consider again whether the introduction of legislation is necessary to address this matter.
