Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - Western Drainage Scheme.

395.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if applicants for drainage grants under the western drainage scheme will be allowed time to complete the work after 31 October 1986.

This measure is due to expire at the end of 1986 in accordance with the relevant EC Regulation. Because of this limitation it is not possible to allow an extension of time for completion of work beyond the dates already laid down. The Commission has been approached about extending the Regulation but so far has not agreed to do so.

396.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when a new scheme for western drainage will be announced; and the steps which will be taken to deal with the backlog of applications.

A proposal has been sent to the EC Commission that drainage should be included in the western package which is now under review. If the proposal succeeds, outstanding applications under the western drainage scheme can be considered.
