asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the discussions he has had with the British government in the context of the Anglo-Irish Agreement in relation to the reopening of Aghalane Bridge between Cavan and Fermanagh.

I have frequently raised the question of Aghalane Bridge with the British authorities, whose co-operation would be required if this cross-Border bridge were to be reconstructed; in their response they have referred to the security problems which would arise if this crossing point was again restored. I will continue to raise this matter with the British authorities with a view to a satisfactory solution.
As the Deputy is no doubt aware, it is not the practice to disclose details of matters raised within the context of the conference. I can assure him that in my discussions with the British authorities, I have made them fully aware of our views on cross-Border road closures.
