asked the Minister for Health the number of (a) autistic children and (b) autistic adults in each health board area; and the number awaiting residential care in each area.

As I indicated in reply to a similar question by the Deputy on 13 May 1986 (Official Report column 621, volume 366), it is generally accepted that there is no precise definition of autism. However, the information requested by the Deputy is listed below as supplied by the individual health boards:—
