Vol. 369 No. 5

Written Answers. - Policing Arrangements in Cabra Area.

144.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will give details of any developments which may have taken place out of his direction to local Garda officers in the Cabra area Dublin to liaise with residents' associations and to review the effectiveness of existing policing arrangements in the light of any particular matters of concern to the residents as outlined in his correspondence to Deputy Keating of 13 October 1886.

The "direction" referred to in the Question was given by the Garda authorities, not by me. Since then, according to information supplied by the Garda authorities, the gardaí at Mountjoy have been in touch with the East Cabra Residents' Association about a proposal for the setting up of a neighbourhood watch scheme which would include most of the New Cabra Road area and arrangements have been made for liaison between the local gardaí and other residents' associations in that general area on matters of common concern in relation to local crime problems.
