Vol. 369 No. 6

Written Answers. - Income Tax.

92.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated amount of income tax outstanding at (a) 31 December, 1984 and (b) at 31 December, 1985; and the percentage of this amount he would calculate as actually due to the Revenue Commissioners.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the task of compiling figures of the amounts of income tax outstanding is a large and costly one. It is undertaken annually by reference to the position at 31 May for the purpose of providing information for publication in the annual reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General on the appropriation accounts. The latest information on the balances of income tax (excluding PAYE) and of PAYE income tax outstanding relate to 31 May 1985 and are shown in Schedules 1 and 2 of paragraph 18 of the report on the appropriation accounts for 1984. The balances in question contain a large element in respect of estimated charges and accordingly the attention of the Deputy is invited to the estimates in the schedules referred to showing the amounts likely to be collected.

The amounts of income tax outstanding at 31 May 1986 and the amounts likely to be collected will be shown in the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on the appropriation accounts for 1985, which should be published shortly.
