asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money allocated to the Office of Public Works for the cleaning of drains and minor rivers in County Cavan for 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1986; and the places to which the money was allocated in accordance with the practice in the area since the early thirties.

It is not possible to furnish the information in the format requested as, in compliance with the provisions of the 1945 Arterial Drainage Act, expenditure on maintenance of arterial drainage is recorded on the basis of individual schemes and apportioned between the counties within the particular catchment. The expenditure apportioned to County Cavan for the years in question is as follows:

The maintenance of drainage districts constructed under previous legislation is funded and carried out by the county council.
