Vol. 369 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ballylinan (Laois) Water Supply.

102.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the inadequate and dangerous water supply to the town of Ballylinan, County Laois; if he is prepared to make adequate funding available to Laois County Council to extend the water supply from the new council reservoir at Ballyadams; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of a supply of pure and wholesome water is a matter for the local sanitary authority. My Department approved working drawings for the South East Laois regional water supply scheme stage 3 which caters for a number of areas, including Ballylinan, on 27 November 1984. A loan covering the cost of the scheme was also approved on 10 December 1984 to allow the council carry out the scheme by direct labour. It is a matter for Laois County Council to undertake these works which will improve the quality and quantity of water to Ballylinan and other areas.
