Vol. 369 No. 11

Written Answers. - Two-Teacher National Schools.

176.

asked the Minister for Education the number of two-teacher national schools that are in operation; how many of these schools built in the last century are now in operation; and the total of teachers employed in two-teacher national schools.

The latest available figures show a total of 796 two-teacher schools in operation. These figures relate to the school year 1984-85. The number of teachers in those schools was 1,592.

With regard to the number of two-teacher schools that were built in the last century now in operation, this information is not readily available in my Department and its compilation would involve the expenditure of an inordinate amount of official time. I am, therefore, not in a position to give it to the Deputy.
