Vol. 369 No. 11

Written Answers. - Self-employed Pension Scheme.

141.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if her Department have any plans to introduce a pension scheme for the self-employed.

The national plan Building on Reality 1985-1987 set out the Government's intention to publish a framework for a national pension plan which would also deal with the question of extending social insurance coverage for pensions to the self-employed. As a first step in the development of a national pension plan the Government established the National Pensions Board. Further proposals for the development of pensions provision will be considered in the light of the board's deliberations and of the recommendations of the Commission on Social Welfare.
