Vol. 370 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

59.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a person (details supplied) in County Clare will be paid a £2,000 new house grant.

There is no record of the receipt of an application for a new house grant from the person named at the address given. However, an application was received from a person with the same name and a broadly similar address. In that case a grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the house has been satisfactorily completed and occupied and that all the conditions of the grant scheme have been fulfilled. The inspection will be carried out within the next few weeks.

A problem has arisen in this case because of certain requirements in relation to fire safety measures for the premises. Arrangements are being made to have the Department's inspector discuss the position with the chief fire officer for the area with a view to a resolution of the problem.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in the payment of a new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Louth.

Such delay as has arisen is attributable to the heavy demand for inspections because of the very high number of applications — about 124,000 to date — for house improvement grants. In this case an inspection has been carried out and the grant will be paid within the next few weeks.

63.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will review the level of a home improvement grant allocated to a person (details supplied) in County Louth; if this review has been carried out; and, if so, the results.

A maximum grant of £2,000 was paid in this case under category (f) of the scheme in respect of the carrying out of necessary repairs to the fabric of the dwelling and the replacement of defective windows and doors. Additional information has been requested from the applicant on the age of the dwelling and on its receipt the question of eligibility for a grant for a pre-1940 dwelling will be considered.

64.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a person (details supplied) in County Waterford was refused a house improvement grant despite severe over-crowding; and the reason an inspection has not been carried out to ascertain the true position.

An inspection to determine the eligibility of the applicant for a grant on the grounds of overcrowding has been arranged and will be carried out within the next few weeks.

65.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The application in this case was received on 24 September 1986, and a grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the house has been satisfactorily completed and occupied and that all the conditions of the grant scheme have been fulfilled. The inspection will be carried out as soon as possible.

66.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in having an inspection carried out for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford who is an applicant for a house improvement grant, despite the fact that the roof was blown off the house in a recent storm and it is now in a very dangerous state.

There has been no undue delay. The completed application was received on 15 October 1986 but no indication was given of the particular circumstances outlined by the Deputy. However, arrangements are now being made for an early inspection with a view to the approval of a grant.

67.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a reconstruction grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application from the person named. A joint application was received from two persons with the same surname and from the same address. The application in that case was among those covered by the dispensation from prior inspection announced last February. Notification of completion of works has recently been received and an inspection will be carried out within the next few weeks with a view to payment of a grant.
