Vol. 370 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Cork Schools.

175.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding an extension to St. Laughteen's national school, Donoughmore, County Cork.

The Deputy's question is understood to refer to St. Laughteen's national school at Ballykerwick, Donoughmore, County Cork, for the proposed extension of which the school authorities were recently authorised by my Department to engage an architect. The submission to my Department of an outline sketch scheme for the project is now awaited.

176.

asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, he has to provide a physical education hall at St. Brogan's vocational school, Bandon, County Cork.

My Department has no plans at present for the provision of a physical education hall at the school in question. There are long lists of both vocational schools and voluntary secondary schools which together with this school have sought the provision of such a facility. My Department is only in a position to provide a limited number of halls every few years under the special ongoing building programme for this purpose. It is not possible at this stage to indicate when the school in question will be provided with a hall as the extent and timing of future phases of the programme depend on the availability of capital and on my Department's other commitments and priorities.
