asked the Minister for Agriculture if in view of poor up-take of the mountain and hill land improvement scheme under the western package in the Connemara area he proposes to modify the scheme in order to make it more relevant to farmers in Connemara.

All aspects of the Programme for Western Development including the mountain and hill pasture improvement scheme are being examined in the context of the review report of the programme which is at present with the EC Commission. I am seeking to expedite the matter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of farmers who benefited from the £56,000 paid under the mountain and hill improvement scheme in County Galway in the period up to 30 September 1986.

The number of farmers in County Galway who were paid grant aid under the mountain and hill pasture improvement scheme was 51.
