197.

asked the Minister for Justice the total number of armed robberies to date; the amount which has been stolen in these robberies; and how these figures compare with the same period last year.

For the first ten months of this year — the latest period for which figures are available — the Garda have recorded a total of 556 armed robberies and armed aggravated burglaries. The total value of cash and other goods involved is estimated to be approximately £3.39 million. The corresponding figures for the same period last year were 515 and £1.43 million respectively. The 1986 figures are provisional at this stage.
