Vol. 370 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Wexford Housing.

97.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide the necessary finance to accommodate all those in housing need in Wexford town in the immediate future and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The responsibility for the assessment of need in Wexford and the planning and initiation of schemes of local authority houses to meet that need rests with Wexford Corporation, subject to compliance with relevant guidelines and procedures issued by my Department.

Adequate funds are available to the corporation to meet existing commitments on their housing programme this year.

98.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that Wexford County Council will have a shortfall of £430,000 to complete the housing programme presently under construction; and if he intends making sufficient money available to the council to complete the present work and to commence new housing schemes that are absolutely essential.

Allocations of £2,355,000 and £200,000 were made available in July and November 1986, respectively, to Wexford County Council to finance existing commitments on their local authority housing programme this year. A final review of the capital requirements of all housing authorities is now under way and I am satisfied that the council will have adequate resources to meet its commitments.
