Vol. 370 No. 9

Written Answers. - Wexford General Hospital Extension.

150.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the completely outdated facilities available at Wexford surgical hospital for patients care and treatment; if he is aware of the tremendous work being done in such circumstances by the staff; and if he will state the commencement date for the building of the new hospital wing and theatre.

I am fully aware of the inadequate surgical facilities at the general hospital, Wexford and of the excellent work which is being done by the staff in difficult circumstances. It was for this reason that I publicly announced in Wexford on 16 September last the Government's intention to proceed with the building of the new surgical unit immediately. The planning of the scheme is now being finalised and I expect that the scheme can go to tender early in the New Year.
