Vol. 370 No. 10

Written Answers. - School Equipment.

106.

asked the Minister for Education when his Department intend to provide necessary equipment for a second level school (details supplied) in County Galway.

The school in question was given temporary recognition for three years by my Department with effect from the school year 1985-86. The school opened with 12 pupils on rolls and has 15 pupils on rolls at present. The Department are bearing the full cost of the two full-time teachers in the school and are also paying the normal per capita grant in respect of the pupils. The conditions under which the school was given temporary recognition stated quite clearly that no capital expenditure for specialist equipment or accommodation would be approved until the viability of the school has been assured. A commitment cannot, therefore, be given to provide such specialist equipment at the present time.
