Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

80.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a prior inspection will be carried out in the home improvement grant application of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare.

An inspection will be carried out within the next few weeks.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the long delay in carrying out a new house grant inspection for a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath; when this inspection will now take place; and if he will arrange that prior notice of visit be given to the applicant and that this application be now considered for a £2,000 grant.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 48 and 49 of 4 December. The inspection in this case has now been carried out and a grant of £1,000 will be paid within the next few weeks.

The higher rate of grant is payable in respect of a house built otherwise than by contract only where the house was not substantially completed by 1 May, 1985 and that was not the position in this case.

Approval in principle issued on 3 June last to the proposals of the local authority to carry out a scheme of remedial works to its dwellings at St. Grellan's Terrace, Ballinasloe. This involved general refurbishment of the houses, bathroom construction, electrical improvements, alterations to sewers and watermains, etc. The authority was requested at that stage to forward the necessary technical details in respect of a pilot project. This documentation was received in the Department on 12 December 1986. It is at present being examined by the technical advisers. When their report is available, a decision in regard to the seeking of tenders and capital funding for the project will be conveyed to the local authority.
