Vol. 371 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport Facilities.

165.

asked the Minister for Education if she will approve proposals submitted by County Wexford VEC to improve school transport facilities at post primary level for a catchment area (details supplied) in County Wexford; her views on whether the current service is inadequate; if she will investigate the quality of the bus service and if it will be replaced.

The standard of service which is available to the pupils from the area in question is adequate in the context of the general operation of the post primary school transport scheme. In the circumstances, the additional cost which would be involved in improving the level of service would not be warranted.

I understand that a replacement bus which was used for a short period on the route in question was defective under certain weather conditions. However, I am not aware of any defects in the existing school bus which would necessitate its replacement.
