asked the Minister for Defence the final destination of the cannons the Army attempted to remove from Duncannon Fort, County Wexford; the reasons for this; if he will guarantee their full and permanent restoration and display at Duncannon Fort.

Limerick West): It had been proposed by the military authorities to recover and restore two old cannons which are at present embedded in earth and concrete at Fort Duncannon and move them to Gormanston Camp, County Meath, on the basis that the cannons would have been available for return to Fort Duncannon if so required. It is not now proposed to proceed with that proposal.
