I indicated in my budget speech on 1 April 1987 that I had begun an examination of activities in the science and technology area in the agencies operating under the aegis of my Department, with a view to putting together a science and technology programme that would initially address the priority areas of action. The question of funding the biotechnology programmes to which the Deputy refers will be addressed in that context.
