Vol. 371 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tax Statistics.

42.

asked the Minister for Finance in respect of each year from 1979 to 1986 inclusive, the number of companies who paid corporation tax (a) under £0.5 million (b) £0.5 million to £1 million, (c) £1 million to £3 million, (d) £3 million to £5 million (e) £5 million to £10 million and (f) over £10 million and the total amount of tax paid by companies in each range.

Statistics are not recorded in such a manner as would enable the information requested by the Deputy to be provided. Such information could not be obtained without undertaking an inquiry which could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost.

43.

asked the Minister for Finance for each year from 1979 to 1986 inclusive the payments made by each State company or body under the aegis of his Department to (a) corporation tax (b) PAYE-PRSI, (c) VAT, (d) stamp duty, (e) customs and excise duties, (f) motor vehicle tax, (g) local authority rates, and (h) other taxes.

I have no function in relation to the matters raised by the Deputy. Tax payments made by a State body are aspects of the day-to-day operation of that body: my responsibility is for matters of general policy.
