Vol. 372 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dundrum (Dublin) Hospital.

121.

asked the Minister for Health if any change is planned in the status of the Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum, Dublin 14; if he has had any discussions with the Eastern Health Board concerning proposals to open a women's prison within the complex; his views on whether such a development would fundamentally alter the status of the complex as a hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A decision was taken by the previous Government to transfer a new unit at the Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum, to the use of the Department of Justice. I am currently examining the implications of this decision and I have arranged for discussions to be held between representatives of the Eastern Health Board and of my Department to assist in this examination.
