The Deputy will be aware that negotiations with the medical profession in relation to the general medical service reached an impasse last year. Since assuming office, I have had preliminary discussions with officers of the Irish Medical Organisation, designed to establish a basis for re-activating the negotiations. I am hopeful that a basis can be found to facilitate an early resumption of negotiations.
