Vol. 372 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin School Status.

226.

asked the Minister for Education if permission can now be given to St. Clare's national school, Harold's Cross, Dublin 6 to maintain its present status as a co-educational institution, having regard to the strong wishes of the board of management and the parents of the pupils in the school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

227.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of representations from the Board of Management, St. Clare's School, Harold's Cross, Dublin 6, she will reinstate the school to its present status as a co-educational institution for the sake of the pupils already in the school and for future pupils (details supplied).

I propose to take Questions Nos. 226 and 227 together.

St. Clare's national school is recognised by my Department as a girls school which provides facilities also for the teaching of infant boys. Any change in its status as such could only be considered in the context of a general organisational plan which would have the support of all primary schools in the area.

I understand that a proposal to change the status of the school has not met with general agreement locally from the school authorities concerned.
