I have no plans at the moment to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Spanish Armada. I am aware, however, that wrecks of the Spanish Armada constitute an important part of our maritime and archeological heritage. The National Monuments (Amendment) Bill, 1986, which is at present before the Dáil will, when enacted, provide for the protection of sites of historic wrecks.
