Vol. 372 No. 11

Written Answers. - Combat Poverty Agency.

25.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will outline a programme of work for the remainder of this year for the Combat Poverty Agency indicating his particular priorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the provisions of the Combat Poverty Agency Act, 1986, the agency are required within six months of their first meeting to prepare a strategic plan of their activities in respect of the period ending 31 December 1989. The Act also provides that the plan requires my approval to be given in consultation with the Minister for Finance.

The agency submitted a draft plan as required, which outlines their proposals for the main functions assigned to the agency under the Act and sets out their priorities for the period covered by the plan. My Department are in consultation with the Minister for Finance in relation to the plan and I have also met the agency to discuss the contents of the plan.

Further discussions are taking place with the agency and I expect that the plan will be finalised shortly.
