Vol. 372 No. 13

Written Answers. - Education for Children with Behavioural Problems.

295.

asked the Minister for Education if she will clarify references she made recently with regard to the establishment of special projects for children with behavioural problems; the structures she envisages which would be most appropriate; and when she envisages the launching of such projects.

My Department have agreed in principle to the provision of special measures on a pilot basis to cater for a very small minority of primary school children who are so disruptive that they seriously interfere with the working of schools and deny other children their rights to education. Appropriate arrangements for the continued education of such pupils are being examined at present in consultation with the interests concerned, but it is not possible to say, as yet, when the new measures will be introduced.
