Vol. 373 No. 1

Written Answers. - Angling Industry.

13.

asked the Minister for the Marine the steps, if any, he proposes to take to develop Ireland's angling industry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The regional fisheries boards have primary responsibility for the development of angling in their respective regions.

The boards have ongoing programmes of development works including the construction of stands, footbridges and pathways. Lakes and rivers are stocked with fish, where necessary.

The Central Fisheries Board and Bord Fáilte recently agreed a framework for the development and promotion of angling for tourists.

I will be taking a fresh look at all apsects of angling in the context of the new Department of the Marine.
