Vol. 373 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - BIM Debt Recovery.

2.

asked the Minister for the Marine the legal action now proposed to recover the moneys owed to Bord Iascaigh Mhara by Dingle Boats; if an inquiry will be held into the affair; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The collection of any debt due is a matter for An Bord Iascaigh Mhara. I have no proposals to hold an inquiry into the matter.

Would the Minister not consider it expedient to hold an inquiry into this difficulty? The Minister would probably be aware of the personnel involved in this. I would like to see fair play meted out to all sides. I am concerned that as the proprietor of Dingle Boats is a member of the National Executive of Fianna Fáil, for his sake and everybody's sake, we should see that fair play is meted out.

It is not appropriate to identify a person outside of this House.

The collection of any debt is a matter for BIM. I would remind the Deputy that it is not normal practice to give details of transactions between individuals and State agencies in this House and I have no intention of setting a precedent.

I am interested in ensuring that justice is done and is seen to be done. This is most important for all concerned. The matter is being regularly brought to my attention. I hope that the Minister will ensure for everybody's sake that justice will be done.

Deputy Doyle can be assured that as far as I am concerned fair play will be administered to all.
