Vol. 373 No. 3

Written Answers. - Knocklyon Road, County Dublin.

48.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether Dublin County Council have sought approval from his Department for the carrying out of all works necessary for the full realignment of the Knocklyon Road in County Dublin; when such approval was sought; whether such approval has yet been granted; the funding which will be provided for the carrying out of the necessary road works; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 30 October, 1986, Dublin County Council sought the approval of my Department to their engineering proposals for the improvement of the Knocklyon Road. These proposals were approved, in principle, on 25 May 1987 without prejudice to any statutory procedures that may arise, and without commitment to provide funds at this stage.

A road grant of £678,000 was notified to Dublin County Council for specific improvement works on non-national roads in 1987. The local authority's proposals for expenditure of this grant, which do not include the Knocklyon Road, have now been approved by my Department. The question of providing funds for the Knocklyon Road scheme will be considered when the road grant allocations for 1988 are being determined.
