asked the Minister for Health the allocations made to the South Eastern Health Board for each year since 1984; the proposed allocation for 1987; the percentage reduction this represents; if he has satisfied himself that a full range of services can be provided by the board consequent to such an allocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The non-capital expenditure allocations (excluding expenses of the General Medical Services (Payments) Board) to the South Eastern Health Board for the years 1984 to 1987 inclusive are as follows:—

The allocation for 1987 is the maximum level which can be approved having regard to the overall financial climate.

The health board have now approved of the measures necessary to contain expenditure within the 1987 approved allocation. A team from my Department is in close touch with the board's management to ensure that services within the region are rationalised and that they are maintained at an appropriate level.
