Vol. 373 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Remedial Posts.

99.

asked the Minister for Education the schools in Waterford city and county, in order of priority, where available remedial posts for the current school year were allocated.

No remedial post was sanctioned in primary schools in Waterford city in the current school year. There is no outstanding application from schools in Waterford city.

One remedial post was sanctioned in County Waterford to be shared between the following Lismore schools: S.N. Muire na Toirbhirte, Christian Brothers' National School and Lismore Mochuda (Church of Ireland) National School.

One additional ex-quota remedial-guidance post was allocated to the City of Waterford VEC in respect of St. Paul's vocational school for the current school year under the terms of the Department's circular, 23/86.

100.

asked the Minister for Education if she will appoint a remedial teacher, as has been recommended by the school inspector and the health board for Ballyguiltenane national school, Ballyguiltenane, Glin, County Limerick; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Applications for remedial posts are processed in the Department and available remedial posts are allocated in accordance with a priority of need. The application referred to by the Deputy was not placed sufficiently high in order of priority of educational need to warrant the allocation of a post. The health board has no function in the matter of allocation of such posts.

The application will be further considered in the light of the availability of remedial posts in the future.
