Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Student Nurses' Conditions.

9.

asked the Minister for Health if he will clarify the position regarding the conditions of employment for student nurses for the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the measures set out in the circular issued by my Department on 23 April which related to recruitment and pay arrangements for student nurses.

Student nurses who have commenced training in accordance with the terms of the circular should receive a flat allowance of £50 per week for the first year of training together with free accommodation where such accommodation can be made available. This arrangement will be reviewed at the end of 1987.
