Vol. 373 No. 5

Written Answers. - Passenger Departures Statistics.

32.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will provide details on the number of people who left Ireland for Great Britain by air and sea transport for the first three months of 1986 and 1987; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information sought by the Deputy has been supplied by the Central Statistics Office as follows:—

Passenger Departures Ireland to Great Britain

Air Routes

Sea Routes

Total

January-March, 1986

201,000

202,000

403,000

January-March, 1987

247,000

173,000

420,000

The main factor influencing the modal composition of passenger departures from Ireland was the change from mid-1986 onwards in the relative prices of air and sea travel.
