Written Answers. - Appointment of Teachers.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated reduction in the number of additional teachers to be appointed this year following the cut of £1.064 million in the provision for vocational education.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated reduction in the number of additional teachers following the cut of £1 million in the provision for secondary teachers' salaries and the cut of £500,000 in the provision of community and comprehensive schools.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated reduction in the number of additional teachers to be appointed this year following the cut of £1.091 million in the pay provision for the education group Votes.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 98, to 100, inclusive, together.

The number of teachers to be number of retirements, on the number of teachers taking career breaks and on the results of the appeals being received from school managers following the issue of the teaching allocations. As those matters have not yet been finalised it is not possible at this stage to state what the overall change in teacher numbers will be.
