The scheme for the granting of career breaks to teachers was recently reviewed in consultation with representatives of the managerial authorities and the teaching organisations. I have decided that the scheme shall continue to operate in its present form but that my Department will consider appeals in cases of exceptional difficulty. The Department are at present processing the appeals received in this regard.
